I bend to gently kiss your cheek,
then quietly stand beside your bed
and wonder what’s in store for you
in the years that lie ahead.
I think about your future
and all that you may endure
in a world which often changes
what is innocent…and pure.
I hope for you there is serenity
and true contentment found inside
by never longing for possessions
that your purse cannot abide.
I hope for you there is self-confidence;
for you are the one who holds the key
to a door which reaches far beyond
what is now…and what could be.
I hope for you there is plentiful laughter;
without this, our days are void.
Precious seconds are spent in discontent
that could well have been enjoyed.
I hope for you there is success,
not in what you'll buy or own,
but in the pride you feel in the person you're with
...when you are all alone.
I hope for you there is
compassion
and eyes so filled with caring
that they never cease to shed a tear
for the burdens another is bearing.
Always believe as you live this life
that what will always see you through
is an abundance of love to fill your days
and this is what I hope most, for you.
